The Petit Monde International School, Lyon 7 (Gerland district)

The Petit Monde International School has welcomed children from the ages of 2 to 7 years old, since 1994.  We offer a bilingual, multi-cultural education in one of our three language sections that parents may choose from: Anglophone, Italophone and Germanophone.

Our mission is to introduce young children to cultural diversity and multilingualism. The Petit Monde’s principal pedagogical objectives are to encourage, develop and enrich each child’s capacity of linguistic expression and communication.  Our teaching team use methods that promote harmony between didactic rigor and learning through play and amusing activities.

What distinguishes the Petit Monde from other language schools:

° Native language speaking teachers.

° Teachers who are extremely implicated in what they do and passionate about their work.

° Our three language sections offer a permanent source of discovery and enrichment.

° Classes with reduced sizes (language classes of 16 or fewer pupils).

° Total language immersion in the nursery and pre-school Anglophone section.

° Half-day language learning (the morning and afternoon periods are taught in two different languages)

° A strong spirit of association and partnership between our school and the families (implication of the parents who wish to do so in our school trips, participation in our Celebrations and Festivals Committee)

The Petit Monde: A big family

Please note that we also propose extra-curricular language activities (English, German and Chinese) on Wednesdays and during the school holidays (English only), open to our pupils and children enrolled in other schools.

Name:

The Petit Monde International Private School, Lyon.

Town/City:

Lyon.

Where are you located?

In the heart of Lyon’s 7  borough Gerland district.  Our school is housed in a turn of the century home with a tree-filled garden.  We are very close to the subway/tube (between the “Debourg” and “ Place Jean Jaurès ” stations), next to the ENS.

What are the distinctive qualities of your teaching program?

Our primary focus is on the children’s emotional and pedagogical fulfillment.

Our class sizes are small and they are voluntarily maintained small in order to allow our teaching team to respect the children’s rhythm of learning.

Our teaching methods meet each child’s specific needs while applying France’s Education Nationale School Program.

Our pupils follow a half-day language program, except the Anglophone nursery classes, where the children follow an all-day “total immersion” language program.

Also, the co-existence of three language sections offers a permanent source of discovery and enrichment.

What types of children attend your school?

Three distinct types of children and families constitute the population of our school:

Children of expatriate parents residing for a few years in Lyon whose parents want their child to maintain his/her native language.

Children of parents who have different nationalities whose parents want their children to have two native languages.

Children who are native French speakers whose parents want them to learn a foreign language.

How many foreign families do you receive each year?

Our school welcomes approximately one hundred children each year, composed of around 40% of families of foreign nationalities.

What are your assets?

° Native language speaking teachers.

° Teachers who are extremely implicated in what they do and passionate about their work.

° Our three language sections offer our pupils a permanent source of discovery and enrichment.
